About

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to travel the world, go fishing, drink beer, start a business and hang out with my mates!

“Men and fish are alike. They both get in trouble when they open their mouths”

I am Thomas, and I love what I do.

I grew up in the Netherlands and nature has always been a part of my life. Growing up on a farm was a great way to learn how to love nature, wildlife and fishing from an early age.

Although I can’t remember exactly when I took my first fishing trip, it was my dad and grandfather who were fishing fanatics! Catching bream, carp, eel, pike, perch and walleye was very common in the 80’s and 90’s, but as a small kid you have to start at the bottom.

My first fishing rod was a “Albatros” and my parents paid 10 Gulden (Yes – the Euro wasn’t even a thing back then) for a bamboo stick and a plastic floater.

But oh boy.. I loved that rod!

For the next 6 weeks (during my summer holiday) I was fishing almost everyday and was obsessed with catching minnow, stickleback and even a small bream from time to time.

Over the years I started developing my skills and focusing on bigger and more complex fish species like pike, zander, carp, bream and perch. With my dad and grandfather by my side, I enjoyed every single moment of it.

Slowly but surely, I became a teenager and together with my fishingbuddies we broke almost every rule in the book of fishing law-enforcement. Live bait, fishing in closed seasons and with more rods than the local fishing store could offer, it was a surprise that we got away with so much without the local police officer (per bicycle) did not catch us! 😉

Then again, those “little rascal” actions did create bonds and friendships that till this day (almost 25 years later) are still very dear to me.

Why did I start this blog?

I was tired of hanging out on the international fishing forums (unfortunately, many rude people) and most blogs were full of very generic information and not written by passionate anglers.

After my successful travel blog The Road Trip Guy, I decided that I should start a blog as well about another big passion of mine:

Fishing!

Join me and my fishing friends on our travels to some of the world’s most well known fishing destinations. Through sharing our best fishing tips, tricks, gear reviews, locations and much more we hope to inspire fishing fanatics to start your own journey towards becoming…

The King of the Catch!
